WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a clash of national title contenders, No. 3 Duke outlasted No. 1 Michigan in a high-intensity neutral-site battle Saturday night, delivering a statement win that could carry major NCAA Tournament implications.
Behind an illustrious performance from star forward Cameron Boozer, the Blue Devils controlled the paint and executed down the stretch to secure the victory. Boozer’s scoring touch and rebounding presence proved decisive, particularly in the second half as Duke weathered multiple Michigan runs. Jon Scheyer made a crucial decision late in the second half with Boozer tacking on his fourth foul, with other Blue Devils weathering the storm.

Michigan entered the matchup boasting one of the nation’s most efficient offenses, but Duke’s defensive pressure disrupted rhythm and forced key turnovers. Duke orchestrated a tenacious half court defense keeping Michigan out of transition. The Wolverines struggled to find consistent perimeter shooting late, allowing Duke to seize momentum in the final minutes. The loss marked the worst rebounding margin for the Wolverines all season (41-28).
Moreover, the defeat was Michigans season low in points and field goal percentage.

Cam Boozer flirted with a triple double scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, and a team high 7 assists, showcasing why he's a favorite to win National Player of the Year. Patrick Ngongba scored 11 points, with 6 boards, with none being more important that his key rebound with under a minute left.
The win strengthens Duke’s résumé for a potential No. 1 seed and reinforces its standing as one of the most complete teams in the country. For Michigan, the loss serves as a measuring stick — a reminder that even elite teams must execute under postseason-style pressure.
If Saturday night was any indication, this matchup may not be the last time these two heavyweights meet this season.
