The Duke Blue Devils extended their hot streak on Senior Day, defeating the Demon Deacons 49–32 on Saturday and keeping their ACC Championship hopes alive—with some much-needed help still required ahead of the December 6 title game.
A dominant second half, highlighted by forced turnovers, a strong ground attack, and multiple broken records, helped the Blue Devils secure their second straight state title, completing back-to-back sweeps of the state of North Carolina. This marks the program’s first consecutive sweep since the 1961–62 seasons.
How They Did It
Quarterback Darian Mensah broke the program’s single-season passing touchdown record—previously set just last year by Maalik Murphy—by throwing his 27th score of the season.

Freshman standout Nate Sheppard added two touchdowns of his own, surpassing Duke’s freshman records for both touchdowns and rushing yards in a single season. Power runner AC “Anderson” Castle also punched in two scores, showcasing a bruising style reminiscent of former NFL fullback Mike Alstott.

WR Sahmir Hagans provided a spark with an electrifying 80-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter, setting Duke up with prime field position.
He also added two receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Barkate contributed 8 catches for 83 yards.
Now, the Blue Devils turn their attention to the Cavaliers and Bearcats, hoping for an upset from either team—any such result would send Duke to the ACC Championship Game at Bank of America Stadium.
