Duke's Kara Lawson Deemed Team USA Head Coach

Duke womens basketball coach Kara Lawson was announced today as the choice to lead the womens national team as head coach. Lawson who is a former olympian will lead Team USA through the 2028 Olympics being held in Los Angeles.


The women's national basketball managing director Sue Bird, with the Board of Directors made the official announcement which will be formally announced Tuesday evening inside the K Center at Duke University.

Coach Kara Lawson credentials include being a gold medalist during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In addition, other gold medals captured included Lawson being an assistant coach at the FIBA Women's World Cup at the 2022 games, 2024 Paris games, and this years 2025 FIBA trials AmeriCup.


Lawson was cited stating her gratitude for position,

"I am honored to be selected as the head coach of the Women's National Team"

Next up for Kara Lawson includes leading the women's team at the World Cup at the Berlin games, with the goal of capturing gold again in LA.


Coach Lawson involvement dates back to 1998 as a high school player contributing to Team USA at the youth games.


The Blue Devils are coming off a 2025 ACC Championship, and Elite 8 birth which included knocking off arch rival UNC in the Sweet-16.
