Deron Rippey Gives Jon Scheyer Options in Backcourt
Brooklyn native, freshman standout point guard Deron Rippey has caught the attention of many throughout Duke's first two exhibition games including a 103-64 route Tuesday night against 8th ranked Tennessee.
In just 21 minutes Deron scored 21 points, including 3 assist, to 3 steals. More importantly, the shots fell within the flow of the offense, which Jon Scheyer spoke on post game stating the freshman in his situation doesn't shy away from the competition, and further embraces it.
The Blue Devils backcourt features senior Caleb Foster who has been out nursing an ankle injury suffered in practice two weeks ago. Sophmore Cayden Boozer throughout both exhibition games has been more of facilitator but himself stated after the win, was impressed with Rippeys play.
Deron Rippey has drawn comparisons to NBA talent Ja Morant, Baron Davis, and Steve Francis and attributes his decision to attend Duke with their persistence in developing NBA talent.
The willingness to press full court 94 feet, shutting down the opposing team's game plan, while getting others involves often will give Scheyer fits implementing minutes for a very deep backcourt rotation in Durham.
