The new Dickie V Invitational event announced on Monday courtesy of ESPN events and the Charlotte Sports foundation that the Duke Blue Devils and Texas Longhorns will face off to open the 2025-26 college basketball season.

The news comes after the Charlotte Sports foundation had successful ventures with Ally sports in hosting the Jordan Brand Jumpman invitational events for both men's and women's basketball programs at the Spectrum Center, home of the Charlotte Hornets.

In five previous meetings, the Blue Devils secured wins, with the last meeting coming in a 85-78 overtime victory during the Nike invitational in Portland, Oregon.

Dick Vitale announced last December that he was cancer free and called it a blessing to return court side for calling games.

ESPN announced Monday their plans to extend Dick Vitale contract throughout the 2027-28 season.
