Lady Blue Devils Suffer First Road Loss at Maryland

In a renewed rivalry #11 (2-0) Duke Blue Devils took on #18 Maryland Terrapins live from the XFINITY center where the Lady Terps overcame a second half run, defeating the Blue Devils 85-80 in their first matchup since 2015. Coach Kara Lawson stated all week the opportunity to take on a tall task on the road, which would tell more about her team early in the season.


Coach Frese achieved her 96th ranked win on Sunday. The Terps were led by Kaylene Smikle with 23 points, shooting perfect from downtown (3-3).

Scoring Contributions

The Blue Devils were led by Toby Fournier contributing 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Duke struggled shooting from deep with just 6 of 17 from downtown. In addition, the Terps were 6 of 9 from the perimeter.


Three other Blue Devils players contributed double figure scoring which included Ashlon Jackson (11), Jadyn Donovan (12), and Reigan Richardson (13).


The Difference

After converting a 7-0 run to cut the lead to single digits Maryland converted a pivotal 3 point play pushing the lead back to 11 with over 5 minutes to play handing Coach Lawson and the Blue Devils an 85-80 road loss.


Next up for Duke is a home matchup versus Dayton, Wednesday November 14, with tipoff starting at 7PM.
