Since the early 1950's (1951 to be exact) the NFL has had some version of the Pro Bowl, but due primarily to the lack of competitiveness, the Pro- Bowl is being eliminated.

Today, per the Athletic, executives amongst the league, alongside team owners voted on the future of the Pro Bowl which included no longer having its existence of a stand alone game.

Instead eighty-eight players will receive honors for their accomplishments in Los Angeles prior to the Super Bowl in February chosen by fans, players, and coaches.

Reportedly, this summer several stars such as Jalen Hurts, Jalen Ramsey. George Kittle to name a few reiterated the importance of acknowledging the honorees in a public forum but jeopardizing the actual product on the field tainted the symbolism of being a Pro-Bowl selectee.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has also voiced his displeasures of the event in recent history, which included adding skills competitions, and a flag football event.

Nevertheless, the decrease in ratings, added a nuance for finishing the event annual event.

With salary implications and performance escalators, the incentive to make the Pro Bowl has many assessments of being honored.
